years ago i came across johnny cupcakes which led me to finding the hundreds which led me to benny gold.
i have so much respect for each of these brands. i had the privilege of meeting johnny cupcakes who turned out to be just as delightful as i hoped he would be.
to me the hundreds is the epitome of what an amazing brand is; making truly terrific products and creating an amazing lifestyle brand based soley on staying true to themselves.
over the years i have connected more with the benny gold brand and his business structure as both a full-time Graphic Designer and clothing brand. he has an amazing eye and had been able to take a slightly traditional style and make it uniquely his own.
DEAR BENNY GOLD, im going to step my game up a bit, and when do i would love to collaborate with you on a t-shirt or awesome piece of awesomely awesome art.

dream: go to a marc jacobs runway show

i don’t think i have to even explain.
i love marc jacobs. there is are two other designers who made my dream list, but you must wait and see. no peeking. naughty naughty.
marc jacobs clothing just feel right; they feel good.
i so badly want to be at a live marc jacobs runway show to see each garment make its way down the runway. clothes excite me but marc jacobs makes me overjoyed!

in searching for pinpoints to blog about, i decided to start blogging about my dreams and goals.
DARIN MICHELLE x CONVERSE
i love converse. i loved converse in middle school and high school and even tried to talk my mom into letting me wear them to prom (it was between that and puma that matched my dress). it didn’t happen but it should have.
the goal of LITTLE by darin michelle is to create clothing and accessories based on strong graphic design. converse has had some amazing collaborations and my dream is to be one of them.
there is something uniquely authentic about the converse brand that i love and still shows in our current and ever changing culture.

What’s the Lowdown on the Re-Brand?

most of you know that i’ve been working on rebranding for the past 6 months or so. it’s been an amazingly fun journey. so what is the lowdown on the re-brand? what do i do here? am i still making tees? do i just do graphic design? what happened to LITTLE SHOP CLOTHING?
the best way to answer those questions is to say: i do graphic design.
it seems way to simple right? my goal was to take all the things i love and place it under one umbrella; doing art, clothing and accessories on a boutique level. the style will change, the clothing will change and there will be way more art involved. more design projects that involve both art and clothing will pop up ALOT!!! very excited about that!
LITTLE SHOP CLOTHING is now LITTLE by darin michelle. anything printed with a LITTLE SHOP CLOTHING tag will be the last. hold on to your originals. once they are sold out, they’re gone! some styles will reappear as an update or redesign; a more polished version of what once was.
i hope this all sounds good to yall, ’cause it sounds good to me!

this must be the week de Santigold. you may already know this but Santigold has a show out with the wonderful Vans. and where can you buy them? at one of my favorite sites, karmaloop.com.
there are few shoes that i would drop more than $40 beans on. what can i say; i like a bargain. these shoes may be one of the few pairs that i actually do drop more than 40 on. maybe we can get matching pairs. xoxo
Circus Ballerina: Marie

the project that i am currently working on is my opening project for LITTLE by darin michelle. my goal is to only create clothing and accessories that are directly inspired by the art and projects i am currently working on. right now, i am working on my Circus Ballerina line and my initial branding line (which i will be typing about in the next blog).
i am fortunate to have amazing and talented friends who were readily willing to help me out for the photoshoot which started this project:

these ladies made it soooo easy to work on this shoot and have fun.

the goal with each photo is to create a piece of art that feels as though it is dimensional though it is flat. the theme of the Circus Ballerina collection is to seek or find grace in the midst of chaos. sometimes the best way to deal with ourselves and the fact that grace isn’t always easily accessible, is to put a face on and perform; pretend.

Inspiration: Santigold

there is something about the song Creator by Santogold that shakes me every time. i found myself listening to it over and over again and humming it to myself when i wasn’t listening to it. it’s a song that i love to revisit over and over again. there are many people that are part of the unique “hipster” circle; being different while still looking and sounding all the same.
while Santogold may appeal to the likes of these, it is apparent that she is truly in a league of her own. at least that how i see it.
